So I've been thinking about becoming a firefighter - ChunChu - 04-26-2012 08:49 PM

for my career choice, of course it wasn't my first choice. My first choice was to become a member of the s.w.a.t. team but then I figured becoming a cop would be too stressful on dealing with dick heads, not to mention that I can barely speak English Smiley-red even though I was born in the states.

The requirements for the LAFD which I am trying to pursue are mainly a G.E.D. / HS diploma and physically fit. I have that covered but what concerns me the most is the written test, and the main question " Why do you want to become a firefighter?"

I'm not sure how to answer that, I don't wanna tell them that I'm joining the LAFD becuase the pay is good and the job is less stressful than being a fucking pig.

If you guys can give me some advice on what should I say, I would greatly appreciate it.

be honest tell them u think youre up for the job, if u an ace the physical tests u are half way their, tell them u like the pay the hours , and then say helping others who may die is a bonus, we all die anyway, so if u die on the job, at least u died an honourable if somewhat horrific death.

also tell them u like learning, because you will have to learn. working as a team unquestioning would also be important.

cops don't fuck with you. have a firefighter as a friend and rolling in his truck with the goods is always a good idea.

Bro not to discourage you but I don't think being a firefighter is any less stressful than being a cop.

As for advice on what to say... just talk about how you'd love being part of a team like OTF said, you want to be part of your community, helping people, etc. Good luck dude =)

I don't think I should mention that I like what they pay, but you also gave me an insight that I should sya " I wanna challenge myself'or something like that." I dunno trying to find something they'll buy into =P .

Well it's a whole lot better putting out fire and tearing down shit than dealing with pricks who wanna resist. I'm pretty sure a fire won't occur every minute.

Of course I don't think I would even say that if I was interviewed to be a police officer.

It would be interesting to be a fire fighter i think. They work by day shifts not hours. Usually they work a 24 hour shift then get 24 hours off, then rotate back on and repeat. Though It probably differs station by station, state by state. I know I have heard of them working a 24 hour shift and getting 48 hours off instead of just 24 hours. I did my job shadow for my senior graduation project at a fire station. They had a pretty nice living quarters set up. Big ass TV in the living room area and a bunch of recliners and shit. Nice Kitchen too.

That sounds very appealing, doing work for a day and having a day off?
I think I made the right choice.

Tell a lie, your best friend died in a fire, and therefore you are dedicated to fucking fight fire...

say your best friend is an arsonist, and if you get the job , he will make sure that the fire department are kept on their toes, earning pay.
