Going To Cuba - TheMythOfSisyphus - 07-28-2011 05:39 AM

So, my wish to go to Cuba is on its way to being fulfilled, in the meanwhile I thought i'd go ahead and ask the chat. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to go/things to see? I have family in Santiago de Cuba so that is a must go to, but I would like to also see the rest of the country as well. It all depends on how strict things are, i'm still reading up on the rules US has on travel over there. I promise to try and be a good ambassador to Cuba from immortaltechnique.co.uk.

Cuba's not as strict as you may think. You're allowed to freely roam the country, for the most part, as you wish. But if there was one thing I'd say to go see, it's the John Lennon statue in Havana. Take a picture of yourself sitting next to him! ^_^

I would like to have you go around, ask people, see how they live, ask about what they think about the leaders of Cuba and so on, I would like as much info on that as possible from a completly civil person.

Most definitely I will try to take pictures and videos and all the shit I can. This is very exciting for me, because i've wanted to go to Fidel's Cuba pretty much all my life. My family left Cuba after he took over and the sentiment in my family is pretty much the same as the rest of the Cubans in Florida. I invited the rest of my family to come with me but all refused, some even going as far as to say they wouldn't ever go back to Cuba while Fidel is in power. But for me, that is why it is so important to go. We've all heard all the things about Cuba and its been shoved down my throat all my life. Well, I want to see with my own eyes to know if its true or not. I want to believe, you know, that Cuba is a nation that fought American imperialism and won, but did Cuba really win? My intention is to find out, so I will be sure to ask lots of questions to my family (Referred to lovingly by the rest of my family as "The Communists") as well as to any Cubans I find. But if theres one thing I wish more than anything, I wish I could just sit down with Fidel and talk with him. How fascinating an opportunity that would be. And how unlikely an opportunity lol. Oh well, heres to dreaming!

I have a feeling you will be disappointed about it, to discuss politics in Cuba is like going to church and discuss Atheism! Its just an uncomfortable zone, not that Im saying they are anti-pro Fidel, has nothing to do with that! But I hope it will turn out as expected!

Places To GO:

Area around Holguin, Guardalavaca! (Its just really nice)! I assume you do Habana anyway! So check out the old fortifications , the castle and also check out the old town ofTrinidad, Viñales and the center of cienfuegos!
Also Playa Esmeralda is a nice place, just too much tourism for me, but lots of Nature as well!

Dude hope you will enjoy and I hope your not going to be disappointed!!!

why is that leonardo?

RE: Going To Cuba - TheMythOfSisyphus - 07-28-2011 08:19 PM

No matter how it turns out there is nothing that could disappoint me! I come in there with an open mind, ready to learn and ready to let my Cuban people teach me. Also worth noting on a side note that a friend invited me to Venezuela, so I may be going there as well. I look forward to being watched by USA for a few months afterwards to make sure i'm not a secret communist spy coming back from these places lol.
