RE: Valhalla Rising
it was accurate on the process of Christian colonisation. The Roman Empire had receeded just at the point that Christianity grew - so the two merged, or Constantine co-opted Christianity so it created the second empirefrom the 4th and 5th centuries on - -that of the Holy Roman Empire - something I think the film was accurate in showing.
North Britain was of course key in that as Constantine had served there as a soldier. .... |

RE: Valhalla Rising
Watched this a while back when it first came out, it was really interesting. Mads Mikkelsen is a G. Some parts were really dry though, it would drag on for ages... but still cool. Visually, the movie's dope.

RE: Valhalla Rising
The invading Angles and Saxons - who were the Germanic tribes were not Christian. The early British adapted to Christianity quicker(though not completely) partly because at that time it was an underground forbidden religion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Alban trhough their own dissidents against pagan Rome - from the cruxifixion of Christ till Constantine the Great was just over 300 years. It was useful to to be the foremost church as people were converting to Christianity. So there was a battle to control the religion also.
http://www.patriarchateofalexandria.com/...50&lang=en I think Refn who wrote and directed the film did his homework well - because its fairly accurate in describing that process of growing Christian influence - though of course there was no 'English' language spoken at that time. .... |
