The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
This just came to mind after watching a good number of MC/Freestyle battles on the tube, & what I was thinking was, we apparently have a "show your writtens" thread, but why not a "Rhyme Battle" thread? Where we all come together & battle out. Say one member wants to call another out, & so a sub-thread is made & those two battle it out one-by-one. New rhymes, nothing previously written before the battle ever took place, & no interference in the battle until the battle is done. See it as MC poetry with revolutionary potential.

I know this could work, for on RevLeft a small one started between Marxists vs. Anarchists. The battle was deleted, but it started with Comrade Alastair where he attacked the Anarchists, given he's a Maoist, then Crusade came after him through a rhyme, him being an anarchist. And then, me being a Maoist, went at it with Crusade through this:

Quote:Rhymes weaker than your party, only laughs by McCarthy,
I bet you & your party, when banks blow up, gets a hardy.
Your nefarious plots are weaker than anti-State boycotts,
Living alone in a cot, paranoia from being caught.
Excuse me if I don't fall for your individualist narcissism,
Between yours & mine, I think I'll stick to "elitist cynicism".
Your criticism only matches of those who are anti-communist,
Crying from your failures like an emo with a slit-wrist.
Bleeding longer than the survival of Catalonia,
Crying like an Estonian about how the Soviets saved Estonia.
You see, the workers are in control, your blinded by paranoia,
Leaving holes in your plots like if we were the 1970 Sumeria.
Your molotov cocktails are cute, but the Red Army is better,
Just one look at our solidarity will make your beds wetter.
The only thing your party is good at is attacking Leninism,
Between that & your views, I would just stick to criticism.

Of course, it wasn't organized, & it just happened out of nowhere, but it was interesting nonetheless to get a non-hip hop group to start embracing it through a rhyme battle. So what do all of you think? Can we make this happen?

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
Let's do it in the Battle section. Just make a thread with your name and the user you wanna battle. For example "shakur420 vs Albliteration". Make the challenge. I think it would be called a "Keystyle battle" or something. We can use this thread to make some ground rules. Length of rhymes, who can challenge, eveything's fair? Or some topics off limits. Stuff like that. Me and some guys at work always throwin each other lines and shit. Might actually be a good way to deal with some heated situations. lol. Then we gotta figure a judging system too.

Personally, I'm not too big on writtens, but one, two liners I can come with on the spot. So I'd be down. Plus, I've got some people in mind I'd like to put to the test....

HAH! Alright, I'll make a separate thread on the battle section in which we'll throw down the ground rules. I'll come up with what I feel is necessary, & if anybody feels there's a flaw in the rules or something's not yet added, then speak up on that thread.

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
It's OK. You can do it in this thread, we can just move it to the right section.

Alright, cool. Where's the section anyway? I just joined this month haha.
Ground Rules

Alright my niggas & wiggas & whatever else is in here, these are going to be the ground rules for the "keystyle battles", in which will be waged between any man - & woman - who wants to step up & call out for a challenge.

When it comes to the battle itself, here's the stipulations:
  • The battle will consist of only two people per battle;
  • The battle will have three rounds;
  • When it's the player's turn to spit, then s/he's got 10 minutes to do so, making the battle itself an hour long;
  • If they go further than 5 minutes over the 10 minute mark, they are disqualified;
  • If you feel like you can't spit anymore, just say "Done".

For the time being, we'll try & figure out how to get the voting working. What I'm thinking is, whoever is hosting, which can be made voluntarily, whoever are deemed as the voters, you send a PM to the host & he'll tally it up in order to crown the winner.

If anyone has anything to add, or something they're not comfortable with, speak up right here & we'll see what can be worked out.

We all cool?

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
^ The time can be decreased if needed. Or we can make it to where each battler can put in their battle when they can. This is just a rough draft of the rules. What do you feel could help?

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
idk man, if we give like an unlimited time limit then ppl will forget or just take their time to think of something

how about like a weekly thing where we do this shit in the chatroom, then post it into its own thread in the battles forum. we can start a call out thread and try and find some way to have a championship or something

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
So the battle will take place in the chat room? If so, then I hope the chat room shapes up soon since it's being pretty slow right now on getting a good signal.

RE: The IT Forum Rhyme Battle
Yeah, that's a good idea, live in the chatroom. It's usually fast (both times I've been in there, lol). But live is better. Maybe a max of 4 lines or something? Go 4-6 rounds? Keep it short till we see that people wanna go longer. Or if it's live we can go by time. 1 minute, 2 minutes, whatever. The threads can be used for the challenge, chatroom for the battle and then copy paste it to the thread once it's done (the host's responsibility?). Give at least a couple days from challenge to battle to see if we can get some voters lined up, host and spectators. Maybe to make it as simple as possible, first one to volunteer to host for a particular challenge?

And no coin toss, so challenger goes first?
