Someone put up the church response. When I was leaving Limerick a few years ago there was a story front page on the Limerick Leader about a man who had just committed suicide because he could not get 'closure' whatever that is on the sexual abuse he had suffered from priests. There were stories printed in the papers of graves dug up in church schools with the bodies of children. There was a convent in Cavan (near the border with the North in Ireland) where one night there was a fire. Rather than let the children escape the nuns who were ashamed that the children would be seen in their pyjamas kept them in the convent and the children burnt to death. It is difficult for people to comprehend the darkness and evil of the abuse that occured - it is as dark and evil as it can get. A lot of people in Ireland turned against the church - it was a massive shock when the abuse accounts came out in a society where the church was Central. Nothing surprises me any more about the catholic church.
