^I was mocking the article.

RE: Smart kids are more likely to become drunks
hungarian kiddo is a G

THE time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.

Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay,
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.

Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:

Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.

So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.

And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

You begin saving the world by saving one man at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.

RE: Smart kids are more likely to become drunks
My mothers side of the family are all quite intelligent..And there are a few alcoholics. So,I suppose since I'm prone to alcoholism I rarely drink..

The bountiful ignorance of people IS enough to drive people to drink..So, I'm usually in the middle of Empathy and Apathy for alot of people, and society as a whole.

Meh.

Despite me saying so, you all missed the fact that the study was done in GLASGOW.

Quote:Public health experts from the University of Glasgow were able to obtain the childhood mental ability scores of over 8,000 men and women in their 30s, and found — much to their surprise —the higher IQ, the higher like hood of developing a drinking problem. The correlation existed even after factoring out socioeconomic status, and was stronger in women than it was in men.

The researchers declared the results were "unexpected" and feel the need for “further examination.”

So what are your thoughts on this? It doesn't really surprise me. I kinda expected it.

Then I wonder why my father is an alcoholic. Stupid Motherfucker.

Edit: With Stupid Mofo I mean my dad.

RE: Smart kids are more likely to become drunks
The only truth in this, to me, seems that if you are more aware of the world around you, you may be more distraught and seek things, such as alcohol, to distract yourself from what you don't want to deal with. Nihilism's a bitch.

I would have read this if i wasn't completely hammered right now. (joke)

Seriously though this is interesting, I would definitely like to see a follow up study done.
