RE: SOPA Blackout! January 18th
judging by the profits of the entertainment industry, and the contributions they make to congress, this legislation will get broken up into pieces and tagged on to defense appropriations or something. what im confused about, when I first heard about SOPA they were trying to merge it with a anti streaming bill, that would enact serious penalties, fines + jail time for streaming copyrighted material (like watching a youtube w/ an unauthorized audio track)? but i can't find anything about that in the coverage of SOPA. right now, streaming copyrighted material is supposedly a loophole, not technically illegal b/c you are not in possession of the material.
if a SOPA like legislation gets through in the future, access to this site could be in serious jeopardy in the states. one embedded youtube video and they could block access to the site. |
