Good to see in this time where faith in human ability ,progress and mastery over nature is at an all time low, where misanthropy and pessimism is rampant, a major politician actually going against the grain

i mean, people react in shock horror and anger over the fact that British trains may start to be bought into the 21st century with High Speed rail

not sure if that would sway me to vote for him though (assuming i could vote), as some of his other policies are fucked up

Newts vision may seem quite utopian, but then so did Kennedy's in in the early 1960s. Even if it is not achievable by the time he says so, these goals need to be set, as I am sure one day we will have the capability to do so - someone needs to set it in motion

This has been going on for a while in NASA, Newt is just regurgetating old news. And why do we need this? A back up plan? Vacation homes? Maybe we should work on better shuttles so they don't blow the fuck up in space, or make shuttles that can be used for more than 5 rides.

I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to aim for but I think it's all talk and no go. We have been cutting funding to our space program and to start building city's on the moon would take massive amounts of money.

On another note I think flying around in space is pretty unpractical. Even if we one day figured out the technology to fly faster than the speed of light, it doesn't do much to help us travel. Even if we could double the speed of light it would take us WAY to long to get around. Add the fact that the universe is getting bigger and galaxies are moving farther away from each other. Our own galaxy is going to collide with another in a few million or billion years so we need out of the milky way as well. I honestly believe that traveling from planet to planet or solar system depends more of worm holes or bending space than combustion.

Its not bad, just a waste of time and resources. Homelessness, poverty, murder, suicide, genocide, disease, etc. are rampant around the world. Cities, States, Nations, and Continents are all suffereing from economic fuckery. Why the fuck would we try to create a new colony? Who will this colony be for?

Scientists don't represent humanity, I'm guessing most people would prefer their tax money going to more useful and life changing technologies. I doubt many people even have an idea of what humans should "aim" for.
