Nas, Common & Q-Tip form a super group?

Quote:Common and Q-Tip seem to be adding to their super group, "The Standard," as talks surface of Nas joining the two to collaborate on a new project. Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News broke the news, saying that Nas was extremely interested in joining the group.

Q-Tip was instrumental in getting Nas exposure, producing Nas' track "One Love," off his seminal debut LP, Illmatic, along with "The World is Yours (remix)." Since then Nas took part in producing the A Tribe Called Quest documentary, Beats Rhymes and Life.

Common also recently worked with Nas on his track "Ghetto Dreams," off his latest album, The Dreamer, The Believer. The two also linked up on Hi-Tek's "Music for Life" and Jadakiss's "Why (Remix)."

Since coming togeher in 2007 "The Standard" have yet to put out any tracks, but that doesn't mean that these three can't put out something to change the game.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that a track with all three would make hell freeze to ice... But... I think they like, 10 years too late for that now... feels like back then the could have brought so much more fire... but we will see if it happens...

What the fuck are you talking about? Common released one of the best albums of last year.
And Q-Tips last recorded album was one of the best of the 2000's.
Common and Q-Tip have been as good as Nas in recent times, I don't know what the fuck you've been listening to.

However, this group won't happen. I don't really want it to happen either. I'd prefer solo albums from each, with Q-Tip doing some of the production.

I was referring to Mos Def, not Q-Tip. Mos' words still sound like gibberish to me. Can't even decipher what the fuck he was saying in Prowler 2. He sounds like a boxer that got hit too hard when he raps.

And come on, nothing Common released has been as dope as "One Day It'll All Make Sense" and has been a significant decline since then. Common's fell off into Obama's lap since '97. Can't pretend he's even slightly as good as he was then. Maybe he lost his sense when he started rocking that Che shirt, sending mixed messages.

Nothing Nas has released has been as dope as Illmatic, therefore Nas is washed up?

Be, Finding Forever, The dreamer/the believer are all dope.
I'd go as far as saying that Q-Tips The Renaissance, and Commons Be are as good, if not better than any album that Nas has released in the 2000's.
Also, Mos Def's the ecstatic was a dope album.

Edit: Or do you not like Common because he supports Obama, because I'm pretty sure Nas dedicated a song from Untitled to Obama.

RE: Nas, Common & Q-Tip form a super group?
I haven't heard any quality albums from Common since One Day. Everything else is just "okay". Nas is on the same boat. "Nasty Nas" is long gone. Even the Escobar in him. The ebonic heavy street poet is gone.

Finding Forever is probably the most boring album out of the recent ones. Calling those albums "dope" is an overstatement.

I could care less about what Common's views are. Just pointing out how his views are about as typical as his lyrics are now. He's in the same boat as Dre. Yeah, they may sound nice from time to time but haven't rocked heads since their prime.

At this point, Nas can just release his backlot of unreleased tracks to avoid hearing his more straightforward style.

As already stated, since this idea is about a few years too late, we really can't expect much from all three.

I'm sure something from Nas circa "Stay Chiseled" and Common circa "The Food" would've made something much better than Ghetto Dreams, but at this point we just have to settle for less.

I dont know what albums you've been listening to, but be is a modern day classic. Nas' last two or three are dope as well. Probably two of the best rappers in the 2000s.
