I usually say something funny and in the same post I add something that is on-topic and sensible. Depending on the topic and how serious it is. Sometimes the joke itself was also serious but people got to butt hurt about the lack of seriousness so i had to either delete the whole petty argument and my post or add another sensible post. Tbh a lot of people here try to come up with a clever joke at some point for almost any thread. No need to call out one person.

I always thought the idea of deleting others' posts and tampering with other members' profiles was wrong. The deletion of posts usually favor the interests of the mod/admin who's deleting them. What offends a mod/admin might not offend the other 99% and vice versa. So, I think there's got to be more restrictions in place as to who may or may not delete posts.

At the end of the day, the mods are given the responsibility to moderate. To move, delete, merge posts, threads and all that shit. They're given discretion and if someone's got issue with something they've done, PM an admin and explain the beef, admins can deal with the mods. I'd love for nothing to be deleted and even the most useless, off-topic posts to simply be moved to proper threads where that shit is cool, but it's not up to me, I'm not the boss of everyone. As far as I know, from up above, people who are mods/admins have the discretion to do this shit as they see fit. As much as I'd like no censorship, no deletions, bans only for bots/spammers and things like that, we can't tell the mods not to delete your shit if they think it's the appropriate thing to do. It's their discretion whether they warn first, how many times, etc. Unless we hear otherwise from people above us, that's the reality.

There was a point on this forum after I became a mod where I got serious and shit (Rev probably remembers), and most of you guys who were around at that time just complained about me being serious and doing my job as a mod, then when i'm not so serious you complain that as a mod i should be serious and not make jokes in threads..

Also the warning button, which navan pointed out that we should use more, is what leads up to a banning. Not deleting posts. If your warning gets to 100% you are banned. I'd rather delete a post than give someone a warning or ban. This way the problem is solved without banning them. It is why hardly anyone has ever been banned here other than bots, spammers, and requested bans. If we gave a warning every time we had to delete posts that needed to be deleted, half the people here would be banned. We should use warnings more but that doesn't really have anything to do with replacing the act of deleting posts. When we give someone a warning we usually delete the post(s) that caused it as well. So using the warning function more doesn't solve our little dilemma here with whether we should delete posts or not.

On another note, a lot of you guys seemed to agree about how the staff needed to do its job and keep the forum cleaner than it had been, do to so many threads being derailed and shit, and now we start doing that a bit here and there and we get blamed once again for unfairness by "policing" the forum... you ask us to do our job and now you're telling us not to???. Its like we cant win with you guys. The staff on this site is seriously unappreciated. So many other forums have some serious dicks for staff members, who don't really give a fuck about any of the members or their opinions and just delete any post that they don't agree with. I have said this many times before and I will say it again, we really don't delete nearly as much as you guys try to make it out to be. The proof is in almost every thread. We let so much shit slip and even join in with the jokes and shit. We're not perfect but neither are you guys.

anyway, priya was the one who deleted those posts and she's one of the most contributing day in and day out members here. i have mad love for pri. but i do think she was in the wrong and needs to be less aggressive. however the suggestion of restrictions on mod powers is completely absurd, if it wasn't for them we'd have at least half the recent posts made by a russian spambot. i can't think of a mod i don't have respect for, even el mono and sean who never learned to love me . i sent you guys friend requests on facebook too :'(

there is also a responsibility on the submods here. i've seen too many fucking theads derailed because an attractive female posts. it is objectifying and makes it impossible for someone like nikki, who has a lot of good things to say, to participate in an academic and mature discussion. i'm sure they don't like being hit on by online strangers and i certainly don't enjoy seeing a thread succumb to rev's blue balls.

the only reason yall don't do that to kian and pri is because they'd lacerate those fingers and chemically castrate ya. respect to both.

also, we need to start applying the no joke label for the OP. its been discussed before but is becoming more apparent. I asked politely for nobody to joke about rape on my thread. thats fucking rape. its a very simple demand and instead of having some socratic dialogue on the best way to prevent rape we had 3 pages of humor mocking some of the worse suffering humans can inflict. if an OP is posting actively in the thread and asked for no jokes originally, a mod should delete any distracting or immature humor.

however, immature humor makes some threads great. look at this one. we have posts like this one, very serious, and then myth over there who is leaving me in fucking stitches. here we have a rare and precious balance of jokes and sincerity both complimenting each other.

finally i want to congratulate the forum on our past few weeks of rare friendliness and maturity. i've observed a really nice tone and some brilliant debates. i go through all sorts of hip hop forums looking for new artists and it is frankly pathetic. this one is something special. this thread right here is a check on a return to weeks with all that petty shit, lets pay it some attention.

In this specific instance, that this thread is about, Priya deleted "like 30 posts" from Yael's thread. The question I have and I think the rest of us have is why? The deletion of these particular posts didn't really do anything. That conversation in question was done, why would you even delete it? It doesn't really make much sense, its doesn't really strike me as good judgement. Like, unless the OP specifically requests that the thread get cleansed and back on topic, why would you go through all the trouble of deleting a finished conversation from the thread? I get that its the mods right and they have the ultimate say in what goes on and blah blah blah, but then don't act all surprised when someone gets upset or confused at it. Like everyone else has been saying, if you really have a problem with the way a thread is going, say something, don't just come in and delete like half the thread. Again, I most certainly do appreciate everything the admins/mods do but these sob stories about how unloved the mods are are laughable.
