RE: I met God the other day
Not neccisarily flaws just things that sounded wierd. Like the alarm clock when a spiecies attains flight, and then usuing a human scientists ideas live they were perfectly right.

Although i deffinetly dont belive the story it had some very good messages like living with dangerous technology. Taking it for what it is, a story with a message, its a very good article.

I am the Abraham Lincoln of the forum, I free the slaves.

Yea that's pretty much the point Bob. It's more of a fable.

lol Kcoll that's not me, don't worry. It's a guy called Pekka-Eric Auvinen. Although I do have a very similar shirt. We're very different though.

RE: I met God the other day
Interesting link Hamish.Very skilled author do you know his name? here my thoughts on it:

“a little less. Level One, the level your species has reached, begins with the invention of the flying machine.”

Sort of agree with this but there is different places you could put the beginning of advanced civilization like the invention of the steam engine . the invention of the electric motor or the discovery of nuclear power.

"I define the next level in terms your Sci Fi Author Isaac Asimov has already grasped. It is reached when you achieve control of your own primary – the Sun. "

This i do agree with completely. A working nuclear fusion reactor will be a major step further. unlimited energy which will give out more energy than you put in.
that go’s back to what I have said before that things will lose value. with this technology you could even make gold from water (hydrogen) if you wanted to. They expect to have
a proto type of this by 2030.yeah I’m gonna be around to see us advance to stage 2 (hopefully)

"You can’t create your own parents, so No"
This gives rise to the question who created god in the story. he created our universe. so who created his or its universe? I think this is what the author was getting at.

“So let me get this straight. You are an entirely natural phenomenon.’
Arising from mechanisms which we ourselves will one day understand and possibly even master?’

So here we get that consciousness is a fundamental of reality.

‘at its simplest, "Life Must Go On"

And evolve an understanding

"‘The seeds evolved in deep space, "

Now this is an interesting theory and makes quite a lot of sense. like there is an abundance of all the right stuff/conditions in space it a big place you know?
I like the idea of life being "seeded" through out the universe by asteroids only taking grip if it lands on a suitable place. not only that but once life lands on a suitable planet
it changes it. like a bacteria that breaths in poisoness carbon dioxide breaths out oxygen allowing higher life to evolve from it. not so much as a planned colonisation just a law of nature. nice thought.

“Let me guess. Dinosaurs on this planet are an example. Too successful"
this is a good point we were only able to evolve because of the end of the dinosaurs and if a similar calamity happened to us some other life form would have the same opportunity.

‘So Jesus of Nazareth, Moses, Mohammed…’
‘hmmm… sadly misguided I’m afraid. Anyone capable of communicating with their own cells will dimly perceive me"

This is my view that if prophets were indeed real then they probably reached higher levels of consciousness. they either knew this and explained in terms that lay people would understand or they them self did not understand compleatly. Except the Buddha (means awake i think) explained in proper terms. A bit off topic this is why Buddhism is not a religion they do not believe in a higher god just higher levels of consciousness with there being no separateness at the absolute level.buddhism is a philosiphy.

"You need an arms race in order to make progress."

Sad but true . like nuclear power came after the nuclear bomb. military technology is far ahead of civilian but it eventually filters down. the military is the only entity with enough cash and resources. think of the LHC at 6 billion its the most expensive civilian experiment. compare that to the military’s budget year after year (especially the u.s)

"If you think the dangers of genetic warfare are serious, imagine discovering a secret thought or program, accessible to any intelligent individual, which, if abused, will eliminate your species instantly"

knowledge is neither good or bad just has the potential to be both. or something like that.

“Intelligences have a deeply rooted sense of consciousness only being conceivable from within an organic brain”

Agree with this completely that consciousness is something (thing ant a good description)that is perceived by the brain not created by the brain.

“I hope that if I can get across the concept that I am a product of just such evolution”

and we are the product of his universes evolution

just my take on it.
