Communism in Poland
This may be one for Vegan or Sean but if you know anything about this i'd appreciate others opinions...
Basically the common consensus i get from most Polish people is that they hated living under the communist regime, was this due to the attachments to the soviet union or was communism in Poland flawed paticularly in some way? |

RE: Communism in Poland
I personally think that Communism in Poland under the USSR wasn't necessarily flawed, it was more connected to the notion of the Polish struggle for self-determination and nationalism which was rampant in Tsarist russia even before the bolshevik revolution.
To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering, one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer. Not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness... I hope you're getting this down. |

RE: Communism in Poland
Being born Polish in the 20th century is worse than being a still birth. No matter who reigned over you during this period, you were fucked.

RE: Communism in Poland
I'll respond to this soon. Just got back from the gym, kind of tired, and kind of stinky! lol So I'm going to get a shower, then I'll try and respond to this as best as I can.
"I want to make a promise to you - the reader. And I don't know if I can fulfill it tomorrow, or even the day after that. But I put the bastards of this world on notice that I do not have their best interests at heart. I will try and speak for my reader. That is my promise. And it will be a voice made of ink and rage." -Paul Kemp, The Rum Diary ![]() |

RE: Communism in Poland
Poland after 123 years of slavery in 1918, regained its independence. Immediately after the Second World War the communist system imposed on Poland. Long wars devastated Poland. So now my country is so backward compared to other European countries.
Communism in Poland was based on several key foundations. The first of these was the apparatus of violence, which included the political police (UB, SB). These formations aroused fear in society and led to comply with existing rules, created a system of hopelessness and dependency on the whims of power. The second foundation is a government subordinate to the system. We had a dependence on the USSR. As a result of its military presence of the situation seemed hopeless, and without alternatives, as long as there will be an imperial neighbor. Even I could say that Poland during communism was fucked as Palestine now. |

RE: Communism in Poland
All Eastern European countries that were forced into the Warsaw Pact were brutally kept down, take for example after Khrushchev denounced Stalin in 1955, he became him 1 year later when he decided "Fuck it" and took back Hungary violently.
The only tiny victory Poland had was getting Władysław Gomułka as their leader like they wanted when Khrushchev said " You can find your own way to Communism" Which was more a snub at the US, but was taken literally by the Soviet Bloc. However, to my knowledge, he was still subservient to the Soviets during his time in power. |

RE: Communism in Poland
In Hungary, communism has built a lot of things (and i`m not promoting or support communism here) for example the schools i went to(both elementary and high school) were built during the 70`s,also my grand dad always told me that:"you know, people talk shit about communism, but everyone had a job and everyone had a chance to go on vacation with their family..." I guess every system has it`s winners and losers.

RE: Communism in Poland
i guess it's down to whether you like living your life around one dogmatic ideology or not
You begin saving the world by saving one man at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics. |
