Also one of my earlier beats, probably from like 6 months ago, or longer. Not crazy about it, but when I cut the sample and came up with the loop, I could just hear the drums, I knew how it was supposed to sound. Sample is kinda fucked, I went back and tried to clean it up, but whatever. Just added the bass a couple of nights ago, as you can probably tell, writing music is not something I can do. Trust me, it was worse. Normally, I like taking the bassline outta the track, just running it through a low pass filter and using it to fill up space. This sample didn't really have anything coming through when I took out the highs, lol, it's just the piano hits, so I gave one of the bass samples I have a shot. Tried to get it in there. Sounds pretty bad, but ignore the bass (which might be hard, lol), tell me about everything else.

RE: 97
I can hear some strings coming in for the hooks.
That high hat that might be a little too loud though but just a tad. ![]() |

I'm assuming you mean that one right before the kick, right? And that's the problem I was talkin about. I can't really compose. So, I've tried adding strings with this one generator, but only as kinda "static" in the backgound, to kill the dead spots and as a bassline. But actually composing shit with notes is not something I can at all. But I guess I could go through some of my chops and see if something else fits to come in for a bit. Thanks for the advice, will try someday. lol, like Gezus said, it's pretty simple. Not my favorite beat. (01-18-2011 10:20 AM)Gezus23 Wrote: Simple but not bad. I don't know, maybe you can't pick it out, but it makes me cringe. lol ![]()

^Yeah I was talking about the hat right between 1st & 2nd kicks.
Its really reaaally hard to compose other instruments around a sample. For me it is anyway. ![]() |

RE: 97
^Yeah, I think if you have some basic theory knowledge, you'll be able to do it. Too bad I couldn't have given a fuck less about it when I had the chance. But seeing how Nevahmind did that one beat, where he broke down the parts, such simple stuff added by him here and there, but it makes all the difference. You know what makes me think, though. 36 Chambers. Like, wasn't that shit done 100% with samples? Basic fucking equipment, no fancy EQ, instrument generators, nothing. Just samples, drums and arrangement. If he can do that shit, then fuck the added instruments, I can do without. lol, just have to concentrate on good drums, patterns and samples. Same with Premo, don't think he added any extra instruments, straight samples. Might be different know, but at least at first I'm assuming it was all sample-based shit.

RE: 97
^Thats true that some of the dopest beats ever are straight samples, but you should always strive to balance yourself.
They had EQs though I'm pretty sure, and synthesizers n' stuff. Probably some effects like reverb and phase as well. ![]() |
