So when a woman(or their father on behalf of them) looks at a man finances as the main or only criteria in their decision to marry him then IMHO that's just legalised prostitution as when you enter a marriage there is a mutual understanding that a husband & wife will have sexual relations within marriage.

My bro in law grew up in Saudi and he tells me how fathers(to improve their social status) unashamedly offer their daughters to wealthy men & men in power purely on the basis of the man's wealth/power, even if the man already has a wife/wives.

The Quran clearly states it, wether its for muslims alone or for all the people (Humanity) it is still stated as being legal.

So it is allowed to marry up to 4. That is clearly stated, majority, no, infact nearly all scholars agree on that, if a person says otherwise, I am more likely to believe he tries to interpret the Quran the best way to suit Islam his taste.
Anyways, it states that it is allowed to marry 4 if you have what it takes to treat them all completly equally, Though it is stated in ayah 129 of Sura An-Nisa that you will never be able to treat them equally, that means that it is allowed, but unwanted since you never will be able to treat them equally.

"Ye are never able to do justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire: but turn not away (from a woman) altogether, so as to leave her (as it were) hanging (in the air). If ye come to a friendly understanding and practise self-restraint, Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful."

and that is why I say I think myself its makruh.

Clearly from a womans perspective under no Qu'ranic pretense but..
Ain't no woman gonna share a man with three other women!

The reason the Qu'ran lays out that condition if we are going by logic is solely due to the cultural practice of taking on more than one wife at time by the Arabs.

More importantly, how is it prostitution when the women only sleep with 1 man??

You have to understand that when the Quran was written, infant mortality rate was incredibly high. How do you ensure that your genetic line will continue past your death then? Have tons of wives, that's how.

Its unnecessary now days imo but I dont really have any problem with it, other than women being forced into it, which happens. Like I said earlier, some sects of Christianity practice the same thing.

Because it exploits women... you also have to remember that it was practised BEFORE the Qu'ran had been written too. Women are most likely NOT going to be comfortable being in a polygamous 'marriage'.

The definition of what makes someone a prostitute is not dependent on the number of men she chooses to sleep with for financial reasons. It can be 1 or even 100.

so using that same argument of wanting to increasing the population, shouldn't woman should have had as many husbands as possible to increase their chances of getting pregnant ?

Yes and I completly understand that, and also agree.
but this was mostly aimed at widows who lost their men at war and so on. For example Muhammed (saw) married some of his companion's wifes because they died in war, and he married them to take care of them.
but all of his marriages except one was only for the sake of taking care of women, making ties and so on. If you note, when he was married to Khadijah, he didnt marry no other women, even 9 years after Muhammed(saw) received his prophethood.
