103, 185 and 197
Been working on these for the last week or so. This is one that my buddy kinda liked a while back. We were chillin the other day and he reminded me about it. All I had was the intro and the loop over some whack drums. Tried to fix it up, and, lol, was in the mood so I added some cuts. Would've done more but I couldn't find anything good to match and whatnot so whatever. Pretty much all I'm gonna do with it.

So this one I had the piano all chopped up and had made a loop. Went back and threw some drums and whatever on it. I kinda like it, but I couldn't get those drums to hit harder. I think it works though, them being a little softer. And damn, Nina Simone, she's just got this ill voice, so I had to throw that in there.

Just did this the other night. Been tweaking it the last couple days, listening on the ipod, adjusting, etc. Can't get it right. I had some stuff chopped up from like a week ago. Came up with a pretty sick loop or whatever you wanna call it, and I kinda like the drums (even though I know I should layer that snare and add a little something harder just underneath it to make it pop a little more), but I can't find the right drum pattern for it. For it to just be dope. I'm kinda tired of it now though, so I'm gonna leave it be. Feedback is always appreciated!!

Nice works out of these 3 I have to say I like #2 the best. Your basslines are sounding 5x better good job, gets my head bobbin.

Doing good. I like the 1st and 2nd the most. the 3rd is okay, but i feel it needs more and better drums. Really like that old music sample you used for the 1st. second one is good too but out of the three, #1 is my fav.

Really? I think they're pretty whack still. The bassline in the first beat is alright, but the other 2, lol. Yeah, I think I'm getting better at getting a better sound outta the low pass filter shit. Tighter, stronger, clearer. Just about getting the sweet spots in the filter, EQ and keeping the kick outta the way. I've been reading that sidechain compression will help with this, getting the bass and kick out of each other's way when they hit at the same time, but I'm not ready to try that yet. lol, I probably should, apparently a a big, big way to polish up your beats. And I'm trying to use the piano roll to "write" them once I find a good couple bass hits. Not sounding too good to me, lol. But I am trying to bring them a up a little higher than I think is necessary, cause you guys keep telling me that they need to come up.

What part you mean? Like the intro and the bits here and there of her voice? I mean, I think the beat is kinda goofy, reminds of like a "Freedom of Speech" style shit. But I really liked how that "Black Coffee" part comes in and then the beat drops.

I switched up the last beat just a bit. Listened to it again on the way to the store, and just switched up the drum pattern a bit and chopped the sample a little to give a touch of variety. Meh, on to some next shit. lol, thanks for the feedback guys.

^Yeah sidechain compression is necessary to add a little depth to the bassline. I only just started using it at the beginning of the year. With reason's M-class compressor its super easy to set up the sidechain, I'm not sure what it takes in FL. Of course I also don't know the optimal threshold & ratio settings, but I'm sure it just varies depending on what you're working with.

You can record with your pc keyboard in FL cant you? If not, you should look into getting a MIDI yoke and stuff. Recording your sequences can give a much more 'organic' feel, as opposed to drawing quantized notes out.

^lol, yeah, was just thinkin about that last night. Need to start using my keyboard as a MIDI controller to see what it can do for my drum patterns. Will no doubt help with the baselines too.

Yeah the black coffee sample. I think that's a dope sample. specially what you did with it and the track altogether. i like it, its an oldies type music meets hip hop. and you did good at it, sounds great imo. the 'fuck the feds' parts are a nice add in as well ;) hahaha
