To be fair they're talking about the "unofficial religion of hiphop", but you do have a point. I was somewhat disappointed however at the length of the article.

Hip-hop was more effected by the panthers than nation of islam or even just islam for that matter.

the Nation of Islam are pretty much the "Cultural Nationalists" that Bobby Seale (Chairman of the Black Panther Party) denouces in "Seize The Time".
